Introduction to the Public Domain

The Public Domain describes books and other creative works whose copyrights have expired, perhaps they were never copyright protected at all, and no one has a better claim to those products than you.

When a product has copyright, it belongs to someone in particular, only the legal owner can make changes to the product, only they can benefit from sales of whatever their product happens to be.

Copyright is a valuable commodity, explaining why breaches of copyright are rigorously pursued at law and can attract millions of pounds in compensation.

Many public domain works are just as profitable, (maybe more so), as the most closely guarded copyright items, but they belong to no one, and anyone can copy them, sell them, and keep every penny to themselves.

Countless copyrights are expiring daily, no one can possibly republish them all; there's so much to go round.

Sound too good to be true? That's what we thought too, until we heard about people like:

About the Public Domain

Typically 'Public Domain' describes literary, musical, artistic works, which are no longer protected by copyright and others that were never subject to copyright. Laws vary by country, but are fairly easy to follow.

So many wonderful products are available, yet most business opportunity seekers shun or just overlook this hugely profitable area.

Some I've spoken to fear being sued for breach of copyright, others think no one is interested in work created so long ago, yet more people know about the public domain but they don't understand how it works.

'Public Domain' has confusing definitions but just one main meaning, namely that items in the public domain - that is books, manuals, training courses, pictures, photographs, posters, postcards, music, movies, and other works of art - have no definite owner, they belong to no one, they're available free of charge for anyone to copy, change, sell and distribute in any legal and ethical manner.

There are legal and moral issues to consider but for now all that matters is, these items, millions of them, all in the public domain, are yours to do with as you please and represent an excellent opportunity for you to publish and make money right away.

Information - The Greatest Product of All

Ask some of the richest business people and they'll tell you they owe their wealth to the information business, including the great Joe Karbo himself, author of the best-selling Lazy Man's Way to Riches, and modern day infopreneurs like Robert Allen, renowned real estate tycoon, who openly admits he's made more money from publishing information products than from anything else.

Information never dies, it's one of the best selling subjects on and off the Internet, and the basis of countless hugely successful businesses all over the world.

Sourcing information from the public domain is the easiest way of all to enter the publishing business. Just think about it, all of these products have been created by someone else, there might even be marketing materials for you to update and add your own order details.

Best of all they cost you little or nothing and there are millions of great products to choose from. There's no risk involved: if a product doesn't work, that's no real problem, unlike one you've created yourself or paid someone else to create for you, which has cost time and money and brought nothing but disappointment.

The public domain grows daily, by hundreds, maybe thousands of different products. So much to choose from, and still so few people knowing about the public domain, even fewer prepared to locate this information themselves.

You must be careful and never assume an item is in the public domain.
